MISSION OF THE GBSS COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

Responsive Services: The purpose of this component is to allow counsellors to intervene on behalf of students whose immediate personal concerns or problems put their personal-social, career and/or educational development in jeopardy. The counsellor would have special training and skills in most of the areas students present with, so that they can handle the immediate needs and concerns of these individuals.

 Individual Planning: The objective of individual planning is to provide all students with counseling activities that assist them to plan for and then monitor and manage their academic, career, and personal/social development.

 System Support: In order to administer and manage a comprehensive school counseling program, ongoing system support is of utmost importance. Here it is important that counsellors provide support to areas other than counseling. In system support, the counsellor would work closely with all facets of the school that would indirectly benefit all students.
